Democrats Panic As Biden Dodges Question About Serving Full Term If Reelected
President Joe Biden sidestepped a reporter’s inquiry about whether he would complete a full four-year term if reelected or transfer power to Vice President Kamala Harris, instead poking fun at the journalist for asking the question. The exchange occurred during a photo line ahead of Biden’s campaign event in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.
When asked by New York Post White House correspondent Steven Nelson if he would serve his full term or hand over power to Harris, Biden responded with questions about the reporter’s well-being, saying, “Are you okay? Are you alright? You’re not hurt, are you?” and “Did you fall on your head or something?”
The president’s evasive response comes as top Democrats are reportedly in a state of panic over Biden’s reelection campaign, with former President Donald Trump leading in both national polls and across several key swing states. Despite the Biden campaign and the Democratic National Committee (DNC) having an advantage in cash on hand, the Republican National Committee (RNC) and the Trump campaign outpaced their opponents by nearly $25 million in April.
Democratic concerns about Biden’s fitness for office have been further amplified following the release of a special counsel report investigating his handling of classified documents. Special counsel Robert Hur justified his decision not to charge the 81-year-old president by suggesting that a jury might view Biden as “a sympathetic, well-meaning, elderly man with a poor memory.”
Biden has invoked executive privilege to block the release of audio recordings from his interview with Hur, prompting accusations that he aims to manipulate the materials for potential political gain. As the 2024 election approaches, the president’s refusal to address his ability to serve a full term has only intensified the sense of unease among Democrats.
