Alex Soros, son of billionaire Democrat donor George Soros, is engaged to Huma Abedin, former deputy chief of staff to Hillary Clinton. The couple’s engagement was confirmed by sources speaking to Page Six.

Alex Soros, 38, proposed to Abedin, 47, at his New York City home in May, just before the couple left for a ceremonial celebration in Italy, as reported by Vogue. The couple was seen vacationing in Italy, celebrating their engagement.

A friend of Abedin described the relationship as “effortless,” noting that after many tumultuous years, Abedin is now “relaxed and happy and in love.” The insider added, “Alex literally grew up with his dad hosting and being the biggest Democratic donor in American politics.”

The couple first sparked rumors of their relationship earlier this year when they shared a Valentine’s Day photo from a restaurant in Paris. Abedin has also been seen leaving Soros’s downtown New York City residence on multiple occasions.

A former senior Clinton staffer commented, “It’s a classic Clinton World couple. Alex is the perfect match for Huma.” Abedin has long been referred to as Hillary Clinton’s “second daughter,” while Alex’s father, George Soros, has a net worth of at least $6.7 billion, according to Forbes. George Soros recently announced his intention to hand over his empire to Alex. The elder Soros was one of the top contributors to Hillary Clinton’s 2016 presidential campaign, donating over $9.5 million.

In February, the couple traveled to Munich, Germany, around the time of the Munich Security Conference, an annual event that attracts powerful world leaders.

Abedin was previously married to disgraced former Congressman Anthony Weiner from 2010 to 2017. Weiner pleaded guilty to providing pornographic content to a minor and was sentenced to 21 months in federal prison in September 2017. Abedin filed for divorce just before Weiner entered his guilty plea.
