During live coverage of Hurricane Helene, Fox Weather meteorologist Bob Van Dillen interrupted his report to rescue a woman trapped by floodwaters in Atlanta. As rising waters from Peachtree Creek threatened the woman’s safety, Van Dillen called 911 and reassured her that help was on the way. When it became clear that emergency responders might not arrive in time, the meteorologist waded through the water and carried her to safety.

Despite Fox News’ recent controversies and perceived liberal leanings, Van Dillen’s brave act demonstrated a commitment to the people he serves. His quick thinking and willingness to act went beyond the call of duty, with his colleagues at the network expressing admiration for his actions. Co-host Steve Doocy noted that they could hear the woman screaming during the live broadcast, which added urgency to Van Dillen’s decision.

Van Dillen, standing at 6-foot-1, had the physical advantage to navigate the rising waters, while the woman he rescued was significantly shorter, making the situation even more dangerous for her. After waiting for several minutes with no sign of help, he knew he had to act before the situation worsened.

Following the rescue, Van Dillen’s colleagues at Fox & Friends praised him for his heroism. Janice Dean, a fellow Fox meteorologist, called Van Dillen a selfless individual, remarking that she had known him for 15 years and wasn’t surprised by his actions.

The woman was reunited with her husband after the incident, and Van Dillen continued his broadcast. His quick decision-making undoubtedly saved a life, underscoring the potential for individual reporters to make a difference, regardless of the controversies surrounding their networks.
