Trump Opposes US Involvement In Iranian Regime Change, Reaffirms Nuclear Stance
President Donald Trump has publicly expressed his opposition to U.S. involvement in regime change efforts in Iran, stating that the U.S. should refrain from such actions. During an October 17 interview with podcaster Patrick Bet-David, Trump was asked if the U.S. should support efforts to restore the family of Iran’s late Shah Mohammad Reza Pahlavi. Trump responded by saying, “We can’t get totally involved in all that,” reflecting his broader belief in limiting American intervention abroad.
Although Trump opposes regime change, he made it clear that preventing Iran from developing nuclear weapons remains a top priority. During his presidency, Trump imposed stringent sanctions on Iran, reducing its oil exports and cutting its GDP by more than half. He described his approach as essential to ensuring regional stability, even as he expressed a desire for Iran’s economic success.
In a separate interview with Al Arabiya, Trump addressed the ongoing concerns about Iran’s nuclear ambitions. He insisted, “They won’t acquire it,” but recognized that, as he is no longer president, the issue is out of his hands. He also expressed respect for the Iranian people, calling them smart and “great negotiators,” while warning that the country is in a precarious position given the current geopolitical tensions.
Trump’s remarks come as tensions in the Middle East escalate, particularly with Israel’s ongoing conflicts. While Trump acknowledged that Iran may face significant risks in the near future, he refrained from making any definitive predictions about the country’s path forward.
