Louisiana Sues Biden-Harris Administration Over Illegal Immigration Bringing Rare Strain Of Tuberculosis
Louisiana has filed a lawsuit against the Biden-Harris administration, claiming that illegal immigration policies allowed a rare and drug-resistant strain of tuberculosis (TB) to enter the state. The lawsuit, led by Attorney General Liz Murrill, targets DHS Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas for permitting the infected migrant from China to enter and be housed in several ICE facilities, exposing hundreds of residents to the disease.
The lawsuit argues that the Chinese national, who crossed the U.S. border illegally, has brought an “emergency situation” to Louisiana. The state describes the strain as “aggressive” and “drug-resistant,” with a high mortality rate. Louisiana’s legal filing names DHS, ICE, and the specific detention centers involved as defendants, emphasizing that the Biden-Harris administration’s policies are to blame for the exposure risk.
Louisiana Gov. Jeff Landry (R) addressed the public, stating, “At this time, we have no indication that the public is in any danger.” The migrant, who had been residing in Mexico before crossing into California in July, was later transported by DHS to Alexandria, LA. The individual was then moved, along with 40 others, to Richwood Correction Center in Monroe.
A TB test conducted at the correction center showed “highly positive” results for the dangerous strain. The lawsuit notes that some of those transported alongside the infected migrant were either deported, transferred, or released, raising additional concerns about further exposure. Louisiana insists ICE must conduct thorough health screenings for all detainees before releasing them, but reports suggest ICE has refused to provide such guarantees.
The Biden-Harris administration’s approach has led to overcrowded detention facilities, requiring the transfer of migrants across states. Vice President Kamala Harris has faced criticism for her contradictory stance—advocating stricter controls while simultaneously supporting amnesty and opposing deportations. Louisiana’s lawsuit highlights the potential health risks tied to these policies, stressing the need for stricter immigration enforcement.
