Canada’s hopes of dominating on home ice took a serious hit as Team USA secured a 3-1 victory in their 4 Nations Face-Off matchup. The defeat came after Canadian fans at the Bell Centre in Montreal loudly booed the Star-Spangled Banner, a sign of rising hostility toward the United States over trade disputes and border security policies under President Donald Trump.

The American response was swift and unforgiving. Within seconds of the puck dropping, three separate fights broke out, setting the tone for an intense game. Matthew Tkachuk squared off with Brandon Hagel, while Brady Tkachuk went after Sam Bennett, and J.T. Miller exchanged blows with Colton Parayko. The physicality didn’t stop there as both teams battled for control.

Canada took an early 1-0 lead with a skillful goal from Connor McDavid, but their momentum was short-lived. Team USA’s Jake Guentzel evened the score by slipping a shot through Canadian goalie Jordan Binnington. A rare miscue from Sidney Crosby then allowed Dylan Larkin to capitalize on a 2-on-1 breakaway, giving the U.S. a 2-1 advantage. The Americans added another goal to secure the win and punch their ticket to the tournament final.

Despite missing star defenseman Cale Makar, Canada was unable to keep up with the speed and aggression of the U.S. team. The loss leaves Canada in a must-win situation against Finland in Boston, a team the U.S. had already dominated in a 6-1 rout earlier in the tournament.

For years, Canada has clung to its hockey superiority, but this latest defeat serves as a reminder that the U.S. is more than capable of outplaying its northern neighbor. With Team USA advancing, Canada is left scrambling to avoid an embarrassing early exit from the competition.
