The FBI gave in and will provide the potentially explosive document subpoenaed by Congress to House Oversight Committee Chairman James Comer (R-KY).

The Republican announced Friday that, ahead of a potential contempt of Congress vote, FBI Director Christopher Wray thought better of his resistance to congressional authority. He reportedly agreed to bring the evidence for lawmakers to view on Monday.

The document demanded by Congress is an FD-1023.

This allegedly contains unconfirmed accusations provided by an informant in June 2020 concerning then-presidential candidate Joe Biden.

Lawmakers believe the document asserts that when Biden was vice president, he was involved in a bribery scheme that netted $5 million for his family business enterprises. The payment allegedly involved a Ukrainian natural gas company where Hunter Biden served on the board.

It was only Wednesday when the FBI confirmed in a phone call that the document with statements implicating Biden exists.

Wray, while acknowledging possession of the document, tried to skirt the subpoena. That only met with firm and admirable resistance by Comer, who said that “anything short of producing these documents to [the Committee] is not in compliance with my subpoena.”

An FBI whistleblower alerted Congress that the allegations possibly were not properly investigated by the agency. Comer along with Sen. Chuck Grassley (R-IA) insisted on seeing the document but encountered resistance from the bureau.

It was then that Comer issued the subpoena. Wray said as recently as Wednesday that the FBI would not hand over the document to Congress. Instead, he offered to have lawmakers come to the FBI to read it there.

However, the bureau and Republicans struck a deal late Thursday to have the document brought to the Capitol.

GOP leaders do not know if the claims by the FBI source are accurate, but they have been hampered at every turn in their effort to get to the truth. A string of bureau whistleblowers only added to suspicions around the case.

Two former IRS agents recently accused the agency of hindering the investigation into first son Hunter Biden’s possible tax misadventures. Several of his former associates have come forward with information about his international business transactions.
