California Republican Urges Parents To Leave State

While some far-left activists are calling for boycotts of states like Florida where laws limit access to highly controversial gender-reassignment procedures for children, one of California’s few Republican lawmakers is urging parents in his own state to leave. 

State Sen. Scott Wilk referenced a new bill in a statement declaring that the Golden State is no longer a safe place for parents who wish to raise children with traditional values.

The measure in question could result in the loss of custody for parents who do not want their children who identify as transgender to receive experimental and irreversible surgeries or other procedures. It passed through the Democratic-controlled Senate Judiciary Committee on Tuesday along party lines. 

As a result, Wilk advised parents who “love their children” to move out of the state.

“I’m now in year 11 in the state legislature, and all the time, we’re proposing policies to protect children,” he said. “After 11 years, I’ve concluded that we need to start protecting parents. That’s just not happening.”

Prior to the advancement of Assembly Bill 957, Wilk noted that there have been multiple statewide infringements on parental rights.

“In recent years, we have put government bureaucrats between parents, children, and doctors when it comes to medical care,” adding that he has “witnessed a full frontal assault on charter schools, taking away parents’ choice in how their children are going to be educated to the detriment particularly of children of color.”

Democratic Gov. Gavin Newsom made headlines last year by signing a bill into law that gave young children — who are unable to legally drink, smoke, or get a tattoo — the autonomy to determine whether they should undergo procedures that could leave them sterile and riddled with lifelong regret.

AB 957 was the final straw, however, and Wilk described the measure as one that ensures “if a parent does not support the ideology of government, [children are] going to be taken away from the home.”

Not only is he asking other parents to consider relocating, but he said that he would be taking his own advice after his term is complete. 

“I was born and raised in this state,” he said. “I love this state, but I’m not going to stay in this state. It’s just too oppressive, and I believe in freedom, so I’m going to move to America when I leave the legislature.”
