The “sweetheart deal” given to President Joe Biden’s son, Hunter Biden, was so egregious that even the left-wing media has begun calling it out — with one CBS News reporter attempting to corner White House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre with questions about Biden’s views on illegal gun ownership.

During the Wednesday White House press briefing, CBS News reporter Weijia Jiang tried to highlight the president’s hypocrisy on guns — but Jean-Pierre refused to even discuss the subject, noting that she knew the question was a trap.

Jiang began her question by pointing out that “Biden has spent most of his political career working on gun laws, on gun reform.”

She then asked whether, as an advocate of strengthening gun laws, the president believes that “someone who is charged with possessing a firearm illegally should be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law?”

While the CBS News reporter did not mention Hunter Biden specifically, the felony crime she was referring to is the same crime that Hunter is being charged with — though Hunter’s has been downgraded to a misdemeanor and he is being given pretrial diversion for the crime rather than criminal prosecution like any other American would have gotten.

Jean-Pierre saw through the question, however, and refused to answer it.

“I think I know where this question is going, and I’m just going to continue to say: As it relates to the case that we’re seeing in Delaware, I’m just going to not speak to that,” the press secretary replied. “It is an independent matter. This is up for the Department of Justice.”

Jiang continued to press the question, pointing out that the president “talks often about the need to get illegal firearms off of our streets.”

“So when someone possesses one illegally, what does the president believe should happen to them?” she asked.

Jean-Pierre once again refused to answer, instead reiterating her previous statement and claiming that Biden “has been very clear.”

Meanwhile, Jiang’s assertions were correct. Biden has repeatedly demanded more infringement on Americans’ Second Amendment rights — but has been completely silent about his son lying on a federal gun form to illegally purchase a firearm.

While law enforcement would go after the average American for a similar crime, Hunter received a slap on the wrist. As The Blaze noted, “To Jiang’s point, the Justice Department typically prosecutes those who illegally possess firearms to the fullest extent of the law. Earlier this year, in fact, the agency boasted about prosecuting individuals accused of committing the same crime that Hunter did, which normally carries a maximum sentence of 10 years in prison.”

“It’s unusual, on the other hand, for prosecutors to hand out diversion for such charges, especially because the DOJ’s own guidelines on diversion prohibit diversion for certain firearm-related offenses,” the outlet added.
