The federal persecution of former President Donald Trump intensified in recent days. Special Counsel Jack Smith requested that the judge issue a gag order against the Republican 2024 frontrunner, and among the reasons he cited was Trump’s visit to a South Carolina gun store.

On Friday, Smith claimed in a filing to U.S. District Judge Tanya Chutkan that she should prevent Trump from gaining “benefits of his incendiary public statements.”

He also called on the candidate’s First Amendment rights to be removed so he could not “avoid accountability” by retracting previous statements.

Smith is incensed by a video that went viral on social media of Trump holding a custom Glock at the gun business. He wrote, “The defendant either purchased a gun in violation of the law and his conditions of release, or seeks to benefit from his supporters’ mistaken belief that he did so.”

The government prosecutor also cited a recent report in The Hill referencing Trump’s disparaging comments on outgoing chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Mark Milley.

The former president called out the military leader on allegations of committing treason by communicating with his Chinese counterparts in 2021.

Trump’s attorneys blasted the gag order request as censorship and election interference.

Of course, Smith argued that the former president’s public statements in his own defense should be stifled. Trump has not withheld criticism of those conducting the witch hunt from social media and interviewers.

Smith specifically referenced a Sept. 5 posting on the Truth Social platform in which Trump sarcastically expressed his belief that Chutkan will be “very fair.” The filing also referenced the Republican’s assertion that a Special Counsel prosecutor is “really corrupt.”

Desperate Democrats continue to argue even as the weight of all levels of government is brought down on the former president.

They justify the gag order request by claiming that Trump’s public statements have become violent and result in witness tampering. The filing cited Trump’s Truth Social commentary that Milley “committed treason” and implication that he should face execution.

It said there is a possibility that Trump’s targets could receive threats, though no actual threats were referenced.

As for the Glock in the South Carolina gun shop, the former president was photographed holding the firearm. He later clarified that he wanted to purchase the weapon but did not.

To Smith, this signaled the intent to benefit from provocative actions.
