Abe Hamadeh, a former Maricopa County prosecutor, has emerged the winner in the Republican primary for Arizona’s 8th Congressional District. Hamadeh narrowly defeated Blake Masters in a hotly contested race, securing his place on the ballot for the upcoming general election.

Hamadeh, who previously lost the 2022 Attorney General race by a slim margin of under 300 votes to Democrat Kris Mayes, faced a competitive field in the primary. Despite the challenges, he managed to win by a few thousand votes over Masters. The primary saw significant interest, partly due to the endorsements from former President Donald Trump, who supported both Hamadeh and Masters as strong MAGA candidates.

In a statement posted on his Truth Social platform just days before the primary, Trump endorsed both candidates, stating, “In Congress, we need a true Warrior who will work tirelessly with us to Grow our Economy, Stop Inflation, Secure our Border, End Migrant Crime, Support our Great Military/Vets, and Protect our always under siege Second Amendment.”

The race was closely watched, with polling indicating a tight contest. The final unofficial results showed Hamadeh leading with 29.83% of the vote, while Masters trailed at 25.32%. Arizona State House Speaker Ben Toma, who was seen as a potential spoiler, came in third with 21.23%. Former Congressman Trent Franks finished fourth with 16.54%.

Hamadeh’s victory sets the stage for a high-stakes general election in a district that has been a focal point for Republican strategists. His campaign will likely continue to emphasize the issues highlighted by Trump, focusing on economic growth, border security, and supporting veterans and the Second Amendment.

As Hamadeh moves forward, his ability to unite the party and appeal to a broad base of voters will be crucial. The general election will test his campaign’s resilience and his alignment with the priorities of the Republican electorate.
