Arcadia Council Member Tied To Allegations Of CCP Influence
Federal allegations against Mike Sun, fiancé of Arcadia City Council member Eileen Wang, suggest ties to Chinese Communist Party (CCP) activities aimed at influencing U.S. policies. Wang, who joined the council in 2022, is reportedly referenced in court filings as “Individual 1.”
Prosecutors allege that Sun, a former Chinese military member, worked with convicted CCP agent Chen Jun to promote Beijing’s interests. Sun managed Wang’s campaign, calling her win a victory over opponents critical of U.S.-China relations. He was arrested by the FBI on Dec. 19.
Wang and Sun have shared roles in several ventures, including the American Southwest Chamber of Commerce, which Wang founded in 2018. The nonprofit promotes ties between the American Southwest and China. Additionally, the pair manage U.S. News Center, a Chinese-language outlet that covered Wang’s political activities extensively.
Campaign finance records reveal Wang reimbursed Sun for political expenses. Despite these ties, Arcadia officials insist Sun held no role in city governance.
Court documents connect Wang’s residence with Sun’s last listed address. Though Wang has not been charged, she is cooperating with federal authorities and remains under investigation.
These allegations emerge as the U.S. tightens scrutiny on foreign influence operations, particularly those tied to the CCP.
