Biden Appears Confused At Veterans Day Ceremony
President Joe Biden was roundly mocked on social media after a video circulated showing him looking clearly confused about where he was during a Veterans Day wreath-laying ceremony at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier.
The 80-year-old president was tasked with placing a wreath in front of the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier at Arlington National Cemetery as part of the annual tradition to commemorate Veterans Day. He was slowly guided to the spot by a member of the Honor Guard — but appeared to forget where he was soon after.
Biden was seen on video looking around, appearing confused about what to do next. He then turned around to walk back to his place, but then suddenly turned back again toward the wreath.
The president managed to distract the crowd and soldiers on duty during the solemn ceremony with his confusion, as a member of the Honor Guard then had to point him in the right direction toward the location he was supposed to stand in for the ceremony.
The unusually awkward scene was captured live on C-SPAN and later shared on social media by numerous critics.
“Biden looks confused as usual after laying a wreath at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier,” comedian Tim Young captioned the video in a post on X, formerly known as Twitter.
“He’s looking for the beach it’s Saturday after all,” one user commented, referencing Biden’s penchant for vacationing as president — as some estimates indicate that he has spent roughly 40% of his presidency on vacation, especially at the beach in Delaware.
“Hey, at least he didn’t look at his watch. His handlers have learned,” another user wrote, referring to the 2021 incident where Biden was caught looking at his watch during a dignified transfer ceremony of Marines killed in Afghanistan by twin suicide bombers.
“How it’s done in three steps,” another user wrote, sharing images of former President Donald Trump during a previous wreath-laying ceremony at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier.
This is just the latest incident of Biden facing criticism for his antics during a public event, but this instance comes as concerns over the president’s age and its impact on his potential second term have been increasing, even among Democrats.
In a Friday newsletter, left-wing outlet Politico declared Biden’s age “no laughing matter these days.”
“It’s at the heart of his precarious standing in the polls and he needs a strategy — something, anything — for addressing voters’ concerns about electing an octogenarian to a second term which will end when he is 86 years old,” the outlet noted, pointing out that an Associated Press-NORC poll from August showed that roughly “three-quarters of adults” believed that “Biden is too old to effectively serve as president. Even among Democrats, the numbers were scary — 69% said he was too old.”
