The Biden White House is prepared to not only rejoin the anti-US and anti-Israel United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO), but it is about to pay hundreds of millions of dollars in “back dues.”

Under former President Donald Trump, the U.S. wisely walked away from the cultural arm of the U.N. over concerns of bias.

The body became notorious for railing against the U.S. and Israel, promoting human rights abusers, and marching in lockstep with Communist China. Trump ended the practice of sending taxpayer dollars to this insidious group.

But elections have consequences, as leftists are fond of saying. UNESCO Director-General Audrey Azoulay called Biden’s rejoining the organization “a strong act of confidence, in UNESCO and in multilateralism.”

She noted the mandate for the organization — culture, education, science, and information.”

Under President Barack Obama and no doubt reluctantly, the U.S. withdrew funding from UNESCO in 2011 due to its acceptance of Palestine as a member. U.S. law prohibits taxpayer dollars going to U.N. groups that lack “internationally recognized attributes of statehood.”

Trump completed the process in 2018 when he formally pulled the U.S. out of the organization.

However, Congress in December decided to reauthorize financial support for UNESCO just before Republicans took control of the House the following month.

The White House gave an interesting take on why the country should rejoin UNESCO. In March, State Department Undersecretary for Management John Bass asserted that the move is to counter China’s growing international status.

He claimed “we can’t afford to be absent any longer from one of the key fora in which standards around education for science and technology are set.”

The U.N., however, has repeatedly proven itself to be far from a neutral global organization. On countless occasions the body threw its support behind Communist China as evidenced by its repeating and following the Beijing party line.

Trump had it right.

Less than two years after pulling the U.S. out of UNESCO, the former president unraveled the relationship with the World Health Organization, which is attached to the U.N. The present situation in Washington is starkly different under Biden.

Instead of standing up for American interests and pulling support from those in opposition, Biden seems bent on showing weakness in the face of authoritarianism. Spy balloons and bases are no major concern, only bending the knee to globalism.
