Biden’s Space Force Nominee Fired Servicemember For Anti-Marxist Views
President Joe Biden has established a reputation of nominating individuals with controversial or extreme opinions to high-level government positions — and his pick to head the U.S. Space Force Command is just the latest example.
One incident in Lt. Gen. Stephen Whiting’s professional past is resurfacing now that he has been slated to take the helm of the military’s newest branch.
More than two years ago, Lt. Matthew Lohmeier released a book called “Irresistible Revolution,” which detailed his opposition to so-called “diversity, equity, and inclusion” standards in the military.
After he spoke out against what he deemed to be encroaching Marxism, Lohmeier was fired. Whiting, subsequent reports indicate, was a central figure responsible for that decision.
According to a Space Force source, Whiting cited “loss of trust and confidence” in Lohmeier’s leadership abilities in deciding that he should be “relieved” of his command. Specifically, remarks the officer made during a podcast promoting his book were deemed “prohibited partisan political activity.”
Lohmeier used his forum to express opposition to the widely debunked 1619 Project, which has been pushed in many leftist circles as a way to redefine U.S. history as inexorably linked to systemic racism.
Furthermore, he noted that these flawed and “anti-American” concepts have taken root in the military.
“It teaches intensive teaching that I heard at my base — that at the time the country ratified the United States Constitution, it codified white supremacy as the law of the land,” he said at the time. “If you want to disagree with that, then you start [being] labeled all manner of things including racist.”
His words apparently proved to be prophetic since he was quickly and unceremoniously fired as a result of his public statements.
Of course, Whiting has shown his unwavering support for DEI concepts through other actions in recent years.
During a Facebook conference in February 2021, he declared: “We know that talent is evenly spread across this country through all demographics, but opportunity is not. So we have to fight through that traditional uneven distribution of opportunity and make sure that we’re bringing in the best from all facets of the United States to serve in our Space Force.”
