Brazilian Leftists Target Bolsonaro’s Son In Police Raid
The family of former Brazilian President and noted conservative Jair Bolsonaro is once again facing a sweeping investigation, with his son, Rio de Janeiro city councilman Carlos Bolsonaro, being the target of a federal raid on Monday.
Brazilian liberals apparently borrowed a page from their Democratic counterparts in the U.S. as they appear to Weaponize the federal government and attack all who dare to go against the government-approved narrative.
Federal agents descended on the younger Bolsonaro’s beach house and parliamentary office.
Leftist radical Supreme Federal Court Justice Alexandre de Moraes authorized the official raids. He is a well-known adversary of the former president and a harsh critic of conservative principles.
Such retaliation against the former president and his supporters became a reality under the current communist government of Lula da Silva. Critics charge that his Federal Police are actively targeting the president’s conservative opposition.
Only two days before the latest raid, police operations were carried out against a pair of conservative deputies from former President Bolsonaro’s political party.
Two sources claimed the federal investigation into Carlos Bolsonaro is related to accusations of illegal spying during his father’s presidency, a charge he has vehemently denied.
In a series of moves that echo those targeting former U.S. President Donald Trump, the elder Bolsonaro has already been ruled ineligible to run for political office until 2030. This came from allegations of misconduct during his re-election campaign of 2022.
He is also under multiple legal probes that opponents hope will end up with him behind bars.
A family spokesman said Bolsonaro and his sons were not present when federal authorities showed up at the beach house. They embarked on a fishing trip earlier in the morning.
The spokesman also denied that laptops and a cellphone were seized.
Prosecutors are reportedly investigating charges of illegal monitoring of Brazilian citizens by intelligence officials during Bolsonaro’s presidential term.
Carlos Bolsonaro is accused of utilizing the Brazilian Intelligence Agency (Abin) from 2019-2022. Agents are suspected of implementing FirstMile, an Israeli software, to track the locations of private cell phones.
Leftists claimed that information gleaned from this surveillance was used to generate “fake news” against the father’s political opposition.
