BREAKING: Hunter Biden Indicted On Gun Charges
Special Counsel David Weiss has indicted Hunter Biden on multiple charges related to lying on a federal gun purchase form, according to court documents.
On Thursday, Weiss charged President Joe Biden’s son with three crimes related to false statements made on a federal application to purchase a firearm. Hunter Biden infamously claimed that he was not on drugs when filling out the application in October 2018, despite later writing in his memoir that he was addicted to crack cocaine at the time.
Two of the charges Hunter is being charged with carry maximum sentences of ten years in prison, while the third count carries a maximum sentence of five years, according to NBC News.
The indictment states that Hunter Biden, “knowing that he was an unlawful user of and addicted to any stimulant, narcotic drug, and any other controlled substance … did knowingly possess a firearm, that is, a Colt Cobra 38SPL revolver.”
These charges come after Weiss and Hunter Biden’s legal team failed to reach an agreement on a plea deal that fell apart in August. The agreement, which was characterized by Republicans as a “sweetheart” deal, fell apart when U.S. District Judge Maryellen Noreika expressed concern about an immunity clause hidden in the agreement. If the deal had been accepted, Hunter would have only had to plead guilty to two misdemeanor tax evasion charges. His punishment would have been probation and paying back the taxes he owes — while receiving no punishment for the gun charges, instead only entering into a diversion program.
Conservatives have responded to Hunter Biden’s indictment on social media, with many arguing that it is designed to distract from the corruption of his father.
“Today’s indictment of Hunter Biden is a smokescreen. Don’t fall for it. This is a fig leaf designed to deflect attention away from the real problem: the Biden family is selling out U.S. foreign policy for their own family’s private financial gain,” Republican presidential candidate Vivek Ramaswamy wrote in a post on X, formerly known as Twitter.
“It’s also no accident that today’s indictment comes at a moment when President Biden’s own popularity within the Democratic Party is cratering. I predict this is the first step for the Democrat Party managerial class to pressure Joe Biden out of the race. Biden will become a sacrificial pawn in service to the deep state that wants to keep power at all costs,” he added.
In a post on Truth Social, former President Donald Trump wrote: “This, the gun charge, is the only crime that Hunter Biden committed that does not implicate Crooked Joe Biden. One down, Eleven to go! The Democrats, with all of their horrible, very unfair, and mostly illegal Witch Hunts, have started a process that is very dangerous for our Country. They have opened the proverbial Pandora’s Box, and it is possible that the USA will never be the same again. SO SAD!!!”
Former Rep. Doug Collins (R-GA) and former Trump Campaign aide Rick Gates both appeared on Newsmax on Thursday and made similar assertions about the indictment — stating that it was potentially a distraction from the president’s corruption, though they were glad that it happened.
