President Joe Biden has announced his decision to withdraw from the 2024 presidential race, citing the best interests of the Democratic Party and the nation. This decision follows increasing pressure from Democratic leaders and declining poll numbers, alongside concerns about his cognitive health, which were highlighted during his recent debate with President Donald Trump.

In his statement, Biden reflected on the “accomplishments” of his administration, naming economic growth, healthcare improvements and climate legislation as examples. In his statement, he expressed gratitude to Vice President Kamala Harris, his supporters and the American people — presumably, for putting up with his disastrous administration.

“While it has been my intention to seek reelection, I believe it is in the best interest of my party and the country for me to stand down and to focus solely on fulfilling my duties as President for the remainder of my term,” the statement says.

Biden’s decision comes after clumsily navigating a challenging period marked by war, a global pandemic and economic crisis. He emphasized that the progress made was a collective effort by the American people — don’t blame us! — and highlighted the importance of unity.

The President stated he plans to address the nation later this week to discuss his decision in more detail. Biden has endorsed Kamala Harris to replace him as the Democratic nominee to face Trump in the coming election.

Biden’s withdrawal marks a significant moment in American politics, raising questions about the future direction of the Democratic Party and the 2024 election, where President Donald Trump will soon have a new opponent.
