Comey Allegedly Ordered Secret FBI Probe Into Trump Campaign Using ‘Honeypots’: Whistleblower
A whistleblower has revealed that former FBI Director James Comey allegedly launched a covert investigation against then-candidate Donald Trump’s 2016 campaign, using undercover FBI agents known as “honeypots.” This information, disclosed to the House Judiciary Committee, indicates that Comey ordered the operation in 2015, shortly after Trump announced his candidacy.
The whistleblower claims Comey directed two FBI agents to infiltrate Trump’s campaign, embedding themselves with campaign staff to gather information. The agents reportedly traveled alongside Trump’s team, aiming to find incriminating material. According to the whistleblower, Comey orchestrated the investigation without an official case file in the FBI’s systems, which is required for legitimate investigations.
Assisting Comey in the operation were Deputy Director Dave Bowdich and Washington field office Assistant Director Paul Abbate. This investigation reportedly targeted Trump campaign adviser George Papadopoulos, who later pleaded guilty to charges of making false statements to the FBI. Papadopoulos was later pardoned by President Donald Trump in 2020.
The operation reportedly came to an end when a newspaper obtained a photo of one of the undercover agents. The FBI’s press office allegedly convinced the publication not to release the photo, arguing it would endanger the informant’s life.
The whistleblower stated that, after the operation’s closure, one agent transferred to the CIA, while others were instructed never to discuss the investigation. Former FBI Assistant Director Chris Swecker criticized the reported investigation, calling it a “booming, egregious violation” of procedures that would normally require attorney general approval.
The House Judiciary Committee has confirmed plans to investigate the whistleblower’s claims, with officials indicating this could be a serious breach of protocol if verified.
