Supporters of Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis’ suspended presidential campaign are becoming even more vicious on social media in the aftermath of his decision to drop out and endorse former president and current GOP primary frontrunner Donald Trump, with many vowing to essentially sabotage Republicans’ chances at retaking the White House.

Throughout the GOP primary, many conservatives and anti-establishment figures have become the targets of DeSantis supporters and even his campaign team on social media — viciously attacking their character over simple criticisms of his campaign or candidacy.

One such victim of their attacks is podcast host and journalist Tim Pool, who responded by telling the DeSantis campaign that their “supporters are so fervent and they’re behaving very much like Democrats.”

DeSantis’ supporters vehemently believe that he was the only candidate who could beat President Joe Biden in 2024, and many are now declaring that they refuse to vote for Trump, thereby sabotaging Republicans’ chances of ousting Biden. Many have posted angry messages such as “we reap what we sow,” essentially trying to shame conservatives for supporting Trump.

Former Trump lawyer Jenna Ellis, who mysteriously turned on Trump when she became the target of one of the myriad of legal cases that the former president is facing, complained in a post on X about Trump’s tactful response to the news.

“It’s ‘Governor Ron DeSantis’ now, is it?” Ellis sarcastically asked in response to a statement from the Trump campaign on DeSantis’ endorsement of Trump.

“No more Rob DeSanctimonious? We’re all just supposed to forget? They think so. I don’t. The audacity here to use the line, ‘It’s time to choose wisely,’” she added.

Ellis seemed to have forgotten that this is a common tactic of Trump and many other politicians — refraining from attacking a rival after they drop out of the race and attempting to become amicable again. Trump did the same thing in 2016 with Sen. Ted Cruz, calling him “lyin’ Ted” throughout the primary, then reverting to “lion Ted” when the two were no longer primary opponents.

Meanwhile, one of the most fervent DeSantis supporters, Bill Mitchell, has also been melting down on X over the news.

“DONALD TRUMP IS NOT THE GOP NOMINEE: Not until July 18th. A lot can happen between now and then including 2 potential convictions. DeSantis campaign is only suspended,” he declared in a post, arguing that a lot “can happen in 6 months.”

Many have responded to Mitchell’s post, pointing out that he previously vowed to leave social media and politics altogether if DeSantis wasn’t the nominee.

“Unless DeSantis wins the GOP nomination, I will quit social media and politics forever. I can no longer work in a world where a narcissistic, lying, criminal like Trump is my party’s nominee. DeSantis is in or I’m out,” he wrote in a post in June 2023.

BlazeTV host Steve Deace also had a meltdown on X over DeSantis dropping out, blaming conservative voters for passing on “the most successful Republican politician” and arguing that they have doomed the country.

“A sad day for America,” he declared. “I’m struck by the fear we made the same mistake the currently ascendant generation has consistently made time and time again, and puts us closer than ever to losing this once exceptional country.”

“And this time it was to bypass the most successful Republican politician so far this century, right when we needed somebody as ruthlessly efficient as DeSantis has proven to be,” Deace added. “But alas, we reap what we sow.”

Another DeSantis influencer, Chris Nelson, was even more crass in his outrage, writing “F— YOU Trump” along with the hashtag “#NeverUnite.”
