The escalating migrant crisis in Eagle Pass, Texas, is reaching unprecedented levels as the small town signals the state of the ongoing open borders disaster being unleashed on the country by the Biden administration. According to reporting on Tuesday from Bill Melugin with Fox News, “Per CBP sources, there were more than 12,600 migrants encountered at the southern border in the last 24 hours, the highest single-day total ever recorded.”

Melugin added, “This breaks the record of 12,000 encounters that was set just two weeks ago.” He described the current situation in Eagle Pass as the town being “completely overrun with mass illegal crossings.”

State governments along the southern border are taking new steps to ensure public safety in the face of the Biden administration’s failure to provide essential enforcement of the national immigration laws passed by Congress. This week, Texas adopted a new state law that makes illegal migration into the Lone Star State a criminal offense. Even liberal Arizona Gov. Katie Hobbs (D) has spoken out against the Biden White House as she announced she was sending the state National Guard to the border to assist in state law enforcement.

The crisis at Eagle Pass demonstrates the significant upward trend in illegal migrant encounters during the Biden administration. The first year of Biden’s presidency saw a sharp increase over the Trump administration, with each subsequent year marking continued growth. The fiscal year completed at the end of September 2023 set a new record, with encounters surging to over 2.4 million.

As illegal migration continues to escalate, federal immigration courts are facing unprecedented backlogs. The Transactional Records Access Clearinghouse at Syracuse University recently reported, “Immigration judges currently average 4,500 pending cases each.” As cases are delayed for years, an untold number of illegal migrants who should legally be immediately deported disappear across the interior of the country.

The situation in Eagle Pass is a sharp reminder of the larger challenges facing the U.S. immigration system. As the small community and all others along the border continue to struggle against the flood of illegal migration, the urgent need for comprehensive and effective solutions becomes ever more apparent.
