Fauci Accepts Prestigious Position At Georgetown University
Despite his often contradictory advice throughout the pandemic and controversial involvement in research that many critics believe led to disastrous consequences around the world, Dr. Anthony Fauci retains a spot of reverence among many left-leaning Americans.
As evidence of his vaulted cultural status, Georgetown University recently confirmed that he would be accepting a position as a “distinguished university professor” within its infectious diseases department.
University President John J. DeGioia made the announcement earlier this week, asserting: “We are deeply honored to welcome Dr. Anthony S. Fauci, a dedicated public servant, humanitarian and visionary global health leader, to Georgetown.”
He went on to claim that the 82-year-old former director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases “has embodied the Jesuit value of being in service to others throughout his career, and we are grateful to have his expertise, strong leadership, and commitment to guiding the next generation of leaders to meet the pressing issues of our time.”
In addition to his professorial position, Fauci will also be joining Georgetown’s school of public policy.
“I am delighted to join the Georgetown family, an institution steeped in clinical and academic excellence with an emphasis on the Jesuit tradition of public service,” he said in a statement confirming the new role.
Much to the disappointment of his ardent detractors, Fauci expressed a desire to influence impressionable students through his position at the university.
“I ask myself, now at this stage in my life, what do I have to offer to society?” he asked. “And I think, sure, I could do more experiments in the lab and have my lab going. But given what I’ve been through, I think what I have to offer is experience and inspiration to the younger generation of students.”
Calling the position “a natural extension of [his] scientific, clinical, and public health career,” he said the decision to accept the offer was a “no-brainer.”
Meanwhile, a number of prominent Republicans continue pushing for an investigation into Fauci’s claims about the pandemic’s origins. GOP presidential primary candidate Ron DeSantis has campaigned in part on his push to hold Fauci accountable.
Referencing the Wuhan Institute of Virology in China, the Florida governor told a crowd earlier this year: “They said it was natural. We know it came from that lab.”
