FBI Identifies Shooter In Trump Assassination Attempt
The FBI has identified the gunman in the assassination attempt on former President Donald Trump as Thomas Matthew Crooks, a 20-year-old from Bethel Park, Pennsylvania. The attempt took place during a rally in Butler, Pennsylvania.
Initially, the FBI withheld the identity of the shooter but confirmed it early Sunday morning through DNA analysis. Crooks allegedly fired multiple shots from a rooftop approximately 130 yards from the rally stage. A U.S. Secret Service sniper fatally shot Crooks after he opened fire.
Trump was seen ducking as shots rang out and was subsequently rushed off stage by Secret Service agents. He sustained a graze to his ear but managed to raise his fist in defiance as he was escorted away. The quick response of law enforcement and first responders was praised by Trump, who also extended condolences to the families of those killed and injured in the attack.
“President Trump thanks law enforcement and first responders for their quick action during this heinous act. He is fine and is being checked out at a local medical facility,” stated Trump campaign spokesperson Steven Cheung.
Following the incident, Trump expressed his gratitude on Truth Social, acknowledging the rapid response by the Secret Service and law enforcement. He highlighted the miraculous nature of his survival, attributing it to divine intervention.
The FBI continues to investigate the incident, urging anyone with information to submit photos or videos online or call their hotline. This attack has raised significant concerns about security at political events and the heightened threats faced by public figures.
