FBI Uncovers Extensive Chinese Espionage Campaign Targeting US Networks 

The FBI revealed Wednesday that it has uncovered a “broad and significant” Chinese espionage campaign aimed at hacking U.S. telecommunications networks and stealing sensitive information from Americans involved in politics. The announcement follows months of investigation into Beijing’s alleged cyber activities.

In September, the FBI disrupted a Chinese operation that had installed malicious software on over 200,000 U.S. devices. According to the agency, the hacking campaign includes efforts to access customer call records and other technological information tied to individuals in government or political roles.

Among the reported targets were the phones of President-elect Donald Trump, Vice President-elect JD Vance, and Vice President Kamala Harris’ presidential campaign. The FBI and the Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency (CISA) stated that these activities are part of a broader effort by Chinese hackers to infiltrate critical U.S. infrastructure.

“We expect our understanding of these compromises to grow as the investigation continues,” the agencies said in a joint statement. They emphasized ongoing technical assistance to affected organizations and encouraged potential victims to contact their local FBI field office or CISA for support.
