FBI’s Focus Should Shift From Political Enemies to National Security Threats

Rep. Mark Green (R-TN), Chairman of the House Homeland Security Committee, recently emphasized the need for the FBI to bolster its resources to combat terrorism after the tragic attack in New Orleans. In response to a radicalized individual claiming allegiance to ISIS and committing an act of terrorism, Green called for a reinvestment in human intelligence — particularly through boots on the ground across the nation. He suggested that the FBI’s post-9/11 focus on tracking down domestic threats through human intelligence had waned in recent years, leaving the country vulnerable to attacks like this one.

However, while Green’s call for additional FBI agents to combat terrorism is valid, there is a more pressing issue that demands attention: the Bureau’s diversion of resources to target political opponents. The case of Dr. Eithan Haim, who was harassed by the FBI after exposing a pediatric sex-change program at a Texas hospital, serves as a troubling example. Instead of focusing on potential terror threats like Shamsud-Din Jabbar, who was reportedly planning his deadly act during this time, the FBI spent valuable time and energy investigating whistleblowers and political dissenters.

In August 2023, Haim, a Houston-based doctor, became the target of FBI agents who visited his home and harassed him for blowing the whistle on a controversial medical procedure. Despite clear evidence disproving any violation of medical privacy laws, the FBI continued its investigation — demonstrating that its focus was diverted from more serious threats. This is particularly concerning given the fact that Jabbar, the New Orleans attacker, was also from Houston and allegedly planning his attack while the FBI was preoccupied with investigating Haim.

This shift in priorities becomes even more alarming when we consider the FBI’s history of political bias, especially under the Obama-Biden administration. The Bureau’s infamous surveillance of President Donald Trump’s 2016 campaign, built upon falsified documents, has shown how easily the FBI can be used to target political adversaries rather than focusing on national security. The Russian collusion hoax—pushed by both deep state actors and their media allies — was a calculated political operation, undermining the peaceful transfer of power and discrediting political opponents with no legitimate basis.

It is clear that the FBI’s resources are stretched thin, and it is increasingly difficult for the agency to effectively balance its responsibilities. Instead of wasting time on politically motivated investigations, the Bureau must return to its core mission: protecting American citizens from legitimate threats. If the FBI truly wants to make the country safer, it should focus on rooting out radical terrorists like Jabbar and stop distracting itself with partisan pursuits. As the nation grapples with an increasing number of threats, the FBI must prioritize national security over political vendettas.
