Gaetz Rips Hur Over Biden’s Preferential Treatment

Rep. Matt Gaetz (R-FL) took special counsel Robert Hur to task Tuesday for utilizing the novel “senile cooperator theory” to release President Joe Biden from culpability over mishandled classified documents. He also blasted the decision not to charge Biden’s ghostwriter with obstruction.

Hur notably declined to prosecute the Democrat by describing Biden as an elderly man with a poor memory. And while this was a boon for the president, the White House reacted angrily to the insinuation that the chief executive is senile.

Gaetz used a House hearing to completely dismiss the Oval Office spin that Biden cooperated with the investigation.

The firebrand Republican noted that Biden claimed he “did not share classified information” and asked Hur if this was true. The special counsel replied, “That is inconsistent with the findings.” 

Gaetz continued by recalling Biden’s assertion that the materials were stashed in lockable file cabinets. That also was found by the probe to be untrue.

The representative repeated the report’s contention that the required elements for a federal criminal violation were present in the classified documents scandal. But “because Joe Biden cooperated and the elevator didn’t get to the top floor, you don’t think you’d get a conviction.”

And just like that, Biden was off the hook for the same infraction that former President Trump was castigated for. 

This despite evidence that the president’s ghostwriter, Mark Zwonitzer, deleted audio files containing “significant evidentiary value” concerning the classified documents in Biden’s possession.

Gaetz asked what it takes for a person to be charged by Hur with obstruction of justice. Deleting evidence obviously did not meet the threshold.

According to Hur’s report, Zwonitzer’s selective editing “was not aimed at concealing these materials from investigators.” However, the writer admitted he was aware of an investigation when the deletions were carried out.

The Republican pressed on. “So, the ghostwriter purposefully deletes this evidence that seems to…show culpability of Biden’s crimes, and you don’t charge him.”

Gaetz then pointed toward the obvious, that Biden and Trump should both have been treated equally and fairly. “They weren’t. And that is the double standard that I think a lot of Americans are concerned about.”
