A new Gallup poll released Thursday revealed that American trust in the nation’s news media reached a record low point. When asked how much faith they put in journalism, a staggering 39% have “none at all.”

That is the high-water mark since the question was first asked by the polling service in 1972.

Another 29% said they have “not very much trust” in American media sources, which matches the high of 2016. A paltry three out of 10 respondents said they have “a great deal” or only a “fair amount” of confidence in mainstream news.

The peak for American confidence in mass media came in the mid-1970s.

There is a partisan divide in the amount of trust U.S. citizens have in their news sources. Democrats traditionally have a far higher level of confidence that Republicans, which is understandable as most mainstream sources are controlled by leftists.

The gap between the two parties is at 47%, which is high but represents the narrowest margin in seven years.

The steep decline in media trust fell 12% among Democrats in just the last year to 58%. That compares to an 11% drop among Republicans and a surprising 29% among independents.

In June, Gallup found that confidence in TV news and newspapers reached near record lows. And in Dec. 2022, pollsters revealed a record-tying low mark for faith in the honesty and ethics of journalists.

Since 2016, American voters have been fed stories such as Russia manipulate the presidential election for Trump. They were also told obvious fabrications about Supreme Court Justice Brett Kavanaugh’s past history.

Then there’s the much more recent Hamas propaganda parroted by the mainstream press. In recent days such outlets as the New York Times and Associated Press ran with the narrative that Israel killed hundreds by targeting a Gaza hospital with a missile strike.

It is now known by U.S. and E.U. intelligence agencies that the missile was a misfired Hamas rocket that struck the parking lot — not the hospital.

Dozens lost their lives, which is tragic but far below the 500 fatalities Hamas terrorists claimed.

It is telling that even Democratic faith in journalism is in a sharp decline. Perhaps it’s more surprising that anyone still trusts what is obviously the preaching of a narrative cloaked as objective news.
