Georgia State Senator Takes First Step To Impeach Fulton County DA
Georgia state Sen. Colton Moore (R) is being celebrated by conservatives after he announced an emergency session to investigate and potentially impeach Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis — who is under fire for her controversial indictments against former President Donald Trump and 18 of his allies.
Willis, whose indictments of Trump are based on questionable evidence and highly questionable legal theories, is also under fire for potentially violating Trump’s due process rights after her office published indictments against the former president before the grand jury had even voted on them.
While Trump-supporting voters expressed frustration that Republican lawmakers’ responses to all of the indictments against the former president were limited to strongly worded tweets, many conservatives are now celebrating Moore for actually taking action to fight back against what they see as a political prosecution.
In a letter to Gov. Brian Kemp (R), the Georgia state senator announced an initiative to begin an emergency session — during which he plans to conduct a thorough investigation into Willis’ actions that could potentially lead to defunding her investigation of Trump or even impeaching the Democrat district attorney.
“We must strip all funding and, if appropriate, impeach Fani Willis,” Moore wrote in a statement.
“As a Georgia State Senator, I am officially calling for an emergency session to review the actions of Fani Willis,” his statement continued. “America is under attack. I’m not going to sit back and watch as radical left prosecutors weaponize their elected offices to politically target their opponents.”
There are two ways to convene an emergency session in Georgia: either the governor can call an emergency session, or three-fifths of both of the legislative chambers can sign onto a letter to demand an emergency session for a review of Willis’ actions.
Breitbart News obtained a copy of Moore’s letter to the Georgia governor.
“We, the undersigned, being duly elected members of the Georgia House of Representatives and Georgia Senate, and comprising 3/5 of each respective house, pursuant to Article IV, Section II, Paragraph VII(b), hereby certify to you, in writing, with a copy to the Secretary of State, that in our opinion an emergency exists in the affairs of the state, requiring a special session to be convened under that section, for all purposes, to include, without limitation, the review and response to the actions of Fani Willis,” the letter reads.
Cliff Maloney, a campaign veteran who runs America First Georgia campaigns, celebrated Moore’s actions in a statement to Breitbart News.
“Finally, a leader who is stepping up and fighting back against the epidemic of corrupt District Attorney’s that are drunk on power,” he wrote, adding: “Colton Moore is an absolute patriot. He must win this battle and I encourage every liberty loving American to support him.”
