German Politician Cites ‘Moral Obligation’ To Redistribute Wealth
As climate alarmists seize more political power throughout the West, officials are becoming increasingly forthright in their assertion that ordinary citizens must trade their wealth and at least some of their freedoms for the ostensibly noble cause of protecting the planet.
Along the way, many of these individuals have opened themselves up to allegations of hypocrisy, including the global elites who take private jets to World Economic Forum summits where they proceed to rail against emissions produced by the air travel sector.
One German politician recently attracted criticism for his social media posts declaring that citizens should be compelled to give up their money — amid an ongoing economic downturn — in furtherance of a radical leftist agenda.
Johannes Wagner, a Green Party member of the German Parliament, castigated his fellow countrymen for allegedly shirking their “moral duty” to hand over their wealth to a central government.
“It’s such a shame that so many people don’t see (or don’t want to?) what incredible prosperity we have in Germany,” reads an English translation of his statement. “We are one of the richest countries on Earth. We can still give so much. And also have a moral obligation to do so.”
He went on to insist that the key to resolving inequalities in his nation involves “more redistribution of the wealth of the super-rich.
It is worth noting that Wagner makes the equivalent of just under $11,000 per month and made no mention of his own plans to forgo that lucrative salary to support his utopian dream.
Despite his insistence that Germany is a wealthy and prosperous nation, there is mounting evidence to the contrary. Its government continues to shower money onto incoming migrants even as citizens — particularly seniors — remain at a higher risk of falling into poverty than the average among European Union countries.
Of course, Germany is far from the only place where leftist politicians and bureaucrats hope to compel ordinary citizens to make increasingly painful sacrifices for what is being described as the common good.
Earlier this year, Biden administration climate czar John Kerry took aim at the agricultural sector, insisting that farmers must reduce their emissions — inevitably leading to higher costs and lower yields — in order to reach a “net zero” standard.
Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX) was among Kerry’s many critics, declaring: “Nothing to see here. Just hypocritical Dems wanting to bankrupt every farmer in America.”
