In a pushback against global elitism, a group of House Republicans led by Rep. Scott Perry (R-PA) have introduced a bill that could significantly alter the United States’ engagement with the World Economic Forum (WEF). The proposed legislation, aptly named the “Defund Davos Act,” aims to halt all U.S. funding to the WEF, challenging what many conservatives view as a threat to American sovereignty and values.

“The World Economic Forum doesn’t deserve one cent of American funding, and it’s past time we defund Davos,” Perry stated firmly, encapsulating the sentiment shared with his House Freedom Caucus colleagues. This move comes after the WEF’s recent annual conference in Davos, Switzerland, which has long been a lightning rod for criticism from conservative circles.

Perry’s legislation is supported by fellow Republicans, including Reps. Tom Tiffany (R-WI) and Paul Gosa (R-AZ). The Freedom Caucus argues that American taxpayer dollars should not support what they perceive as an elitist organization that is out of touch with American values. Tiffany’s statement reinforces this viewpoint: “The Defund Davos Act would ensure that U.S. tax dollars are not funding the World Economic Forum and their reset on our way of life.”

At the recent Davos conference, Heritage Foundation President Kevin Roberts offered a scathing critique of the forum, asserting that future Republican administrations must reject the policies proposed at Davos. Roberts’ presence at the conference was marked by his confrontation with the attendees, challenging the prevailing narratives and asserting that many in the room are “part of the problem.”

The bill’s introduction also comes as the role of global organizations in national politics is increasingly scrutinized. Critics of the WEF argue that it promotes policies antithetical to American interests, citing the forum’s focus on global financial systems and artificial intelligence-driven centrally controlled socialist economies.

Moreover, the bill echoes a broader conservative concern about the influence of globalist thinking on U.S. policy. With its annual gatherings of world leaders and CEOs, the WEF is seen as a symbol of a detached elite pushing for a global agenda that overrides national sovereignty.

If passed, the “Defund Davos Act” would mark a significant shift in U.S. policy toward international organizations. It reflects a growing sentiment among conservative lawmakers and their constituents that American interests must be prioritized and protected from what they perceive as the overreach of globalist elites.
