Harris Promotes Plan Offering Citizenship To Millions Of Illegal Immigrants
Vice President Kamala Harris has voiced strong support for a sweeping amnesty proposal that would grant a fast-tracked path to citizenship for millions of illegal immigrants in the United States. Harris praised the U.S. Citizenship Act of 2021 in a recent Fox News interview, calling it a key part of the Biden administration’s efforts to overhaul the nation’s immigration system.
The U.S. Citizenship Act, which was introduced just hours after President Joe Biden took office, would provide “Lawful Prospective Immigrant” status to nearly all illegal aliens in the country. This status would allow them to work legally, obtain Social Security cards, and travel abroad while retaining the ability to return to the United States.
After five years, individuals under this new status could apply for a green card, with the opportunity to become naturalized citizens just three years later. The plan would give millions of illegal aliens the chance to become voting U.S. citizens in less than a decade.
The proposal also includes provisions for illegal alien farmworkers, Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) recipients, and those on Temporary Protected Status (TPS), offering them immediate green cards and a pathway to citizenship within three years.
One controversial element of the plan is its allowance for illegal aliens deported during President Donald Trump’s administration to return to the U.S. and obtain amnesty, as long as they were present in the country for three years prior to their deportation.
Additionally, the plan seeks to eliminate the term “alien” from federal immigration law, replacing it with “noncitizen.”
