House GOP Urges FBI Investigation Into Cheney’s Alleged Witness Tampering
Anti-Trump conservative pariah Liz Cheney faces demands for an FBI investigation after a congressional report accused her of tampering with a key witness during the January 6 Committee proceedings. The former representative’s name has been passed on for a criminal inquiry amid allegations of unscrupulous and unAmerican activities.
The report, released by Rep. Barry Loudermilk (R-GA), alleges Cheney secretly communicated with Cassidy Hutchinson, a key witness, without Hutchinson’s lawyer’s knowledge. Loudermilk’s findings claim this action violated 18 U.S.C. 1512, which prohibits witness tampering.
“Evidence revealed that former Congresswoman Liz Cheney tampered with at least one witness,” the report states. “This secret communication is improper and likely criminal, falling outside the legislative process and unprotected by the Speech and Debate clause.”
Cheney, who recently denied wrongdoing, appears to be attempting to deflect attention. Critics argue her recent public comments indicate she is aware of the gravity of the accusations against her.
The report also alleges significant misconduct by the January 6 Committee, including withholding and deleting evidence. According to Loudermilk, the committee omitted critical materials from its final report, including exculpatory evidence that could have supported President Donald Trump.
House Republicans further accuse the committee of colluding with Special Counsel Jack Smith, claiming their coordination bolstered Smith’s prosecution of Trump. The report insists the FBI must investigate Cheney’s conduct, which Republicans argue was politically motivated and undermined public trust.
