House Majority Leader Scalise Endorses Trump For President

The second highest ranking Republican in the U.S. House, Majority Leader Steve Scalise (R-LA), endorsed former President Donald Trump for his party’s nomination for president on Tuesday.

This important boost comes as the Iowa caucus is just days away from signaling the official start of the GOP primary season. Scalise did not hold back in his backing of the 45th president.

He declared, “I am proud to endorse Donald Trump for president in 2024, and I look forward to working with President Trump and a Republican House and Senate to fight for those families who are struggling under the weight of Biden’s failed policies.”

Scalise joined House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-LA) in throwing his weight behind the GOP frontrunner. 

According to the RealClearPolitics average, Trump now holds 51.3% of Republican support as the new year brings the country closer to the next presidential election. 

This came even as states carried through with the Democratic initiative to erase the former candidate from primary ballots. Maine in recent days rejected Trump’s candidacy in a move that is destined to be reconsidered by the U.S. Supreme Court. 

Scalise was adamant in his praise for the former president. He said that while Trump was in the Oval Office, “American workers and families were thriving.”

The House Majority Leader noted “the economy was strong and interest rates were low — grocery costs were affordable, and families could afford to buy a house and provide for their children.”

He further lauded Trump’s accomplishments in securing the nation’s southern border and cracking down on violent crime. This, of course, is in stark contrast to his Democratic successor.

Scalise railed against President Joe Biden for triggering massive inflation that is crippling hard working taxpayers. The Republican pointed at the doubling of gas prices and the lack of affordable housing for young people starting out their lives.

Interest rates, he said, are at their highest level in 22 years under Biden’s “leadership.”

Unlike Trump’s strong hand on national security, Scalise charged that the Biden White House has permitted millions to enter the country across the southern border. This is a crisis that needs “a strong leader to fix the problems.”
