Joe Biden Finally Acknowledges His Seventh Grandchild
In a Friday night news dump, President Joe Biden finally acknowledged his seventh grandchild — the daughter that Hunter Biden had with former stripper, Lunden Roberts.
The president and his wife, First Lady Jill Biden, have repeatedly stated that they only have six grandchildren — even going so far as to only put up six stockings for their grandchildren for Christmas photos. Despite being questioned about the issue on numerous occasions, they have never publicly addressed four-year-old Navy Joan Roberts’ existence.
Biden finally acknowledged his seventh grandchild in an exclusive statement to PEOPLE Magazine on Friday night, which may have been a strategic decision — as Friday night is known in the news industry as the best night for “news dumps” because stories will receive limited coverage and limited views.
In the statement, it is suggested that the reason behind avoiding talking about Navy Joan is that Hunter and the child’s mother want to protect “her privacy.”
“Our son Hunter and Navy’s mother, Lunden, are working together to foster a relationship that is in the best interests of their daughter, preserving her privacy as much as possible going forward,” the president claimed in the exclusive statement to PEOPLE.
However, the claim about protecting the child’s privacy doesn’t appear to be true — as Lunden Roberts has repeatedly tried to raise her child’s profile via taking Hunter Biden through the courts. First, forcing him to take a paternity test because he refused to admit that he was the father and pay child support. Second, she took Hunter to court to push for her daughter to take his last name, claiming that Navy Joan would “benefit from carrying the Biden family name” — and arguing that the “Biden name is now synonymous with being well educated, successful, financially acute, and politically powerful.”
Speaking with PEOPLE Magazine, a source claimed that Joe and Jill Biden were simply following Hunter’s lead.
“You have to remember there were some fairly contentious legal proceedings between Navy’s parents happening until just a few weeks ago. As grandparents, the Bidens are following Hunter’s lead,” the anonymous source told the outlet. “They are — and have been — giving Hunter and Lunden the space and time to figure things out.”
Meanwhile, Daily Wire writer Tim Meads asserts that the “Legacy Media’s newfound criticism of Biden is what forced the president to change his tune.”
Meads cites a recent piece from New York Times opinion columnist Maureen Dowd, who argued that Biden’s “cold shoulder — and heart — is counter to every message he has sent for decades, and it’s out of sync with the America he wants to continue to lead.”
Nonetheless, Biden maintained in his statement to PEOPLE Magazine that his decision to publicly ignore his seventh grandchild was not based on politics.
“This is not a political issue, it’s a family matter,” he claimed in the statement. “Jill and I only want what is best for all of our grandchildren, including Navy.”
