Leftist Lawmakers Push Measure To Remove Gendered Language From US Law
Several leftist lawmakers have proposed a measure to remove some gender-specific language from U.S. law in an effort to appease radical gender ideologues.
The measure was introduced by far-left Reps. Summer Lee (D-PA), Ayanna Pressley (D-MA) and Robert Garcia (D-CA), according to press releases. The statements are filled with attacks on conservatives for supposedly targeting “women and queer folks” — likely referring to recent Republican legislation attempting to protect actual women from so-called “transgender women” encroaching on female spaces.
“In 2023 it is unacceptable that the U.S. code perpetuates sexist social structures and reinforces gender stereotypes and social discrimination,” Lee is quoted as saying in her press release. “The Equality in Our Laws Act will enshrine gender equality into the U.S. Code and send a clear message that we won’t be silenced by the right wing politicians, judges, and media goons waging” attacks on “women and queer folks.”
The press releases contain examples such as replacing the pronoun “he” with “the Secretary” in the context of a leader of a federal agency.
Lee’s press release goes on to claim that the measure “would enshrine gender equity in the US legal code by replacing masculine generics with gender neutral language. Additionally, this key change would make the U.S. Code more inclusive to members of the LGBTQIA+ community, especially gender- nonconforming, nonbinary, and intersex individuals.”
The Pennsylvania congresswoman shared the news in a post on Twitter.
“Words matter—especially the words that form the foundation of our country’s rule of law. I’m proud to introduce the Equality in Our Laws Act, which enshrines gender equity in the US legal code by replacing masculine generics with gender-neutral language,” Lee tweeted.
A one-page summary of the legislation notes that it would “authorize/direct the Office of Law Revision Counsel (OLRC) to make non-substantive, gender-neutral revisions to the non-positive law portions of the Code” and would also “Direct OLRC to prepare a draft bill that makes non-substantive, gender-neutral revisions to the positive law portions of the Code.”
Despite the left’s recent attacks on women’s rights via radical gender ideology and transgenderism, the measure would permit some gender-specific language to remain in laws that specifically pertain to women — although they are likely to include men who claim to be women under that definition as well.
“Some laws, such as the Violence Against Women Act and the statute establishing the Women-Owned Small Business Federal Contracting Program, use gender specific language to create rights and protections. OLRC would be prohibited from amending any portion of the Code where gender affects the substance, meaning or interpretation of the federal law,” the summary states.
This is just the latest attempt by the left to alter language to conform with their redefinition of gender and their invention of new, imaginary pronouns and genders — which ultimately make communication more difficult and confusing.
