A shocking letter filed in court Monday reveals that Ryan Routh, the man arrested for the second assassination attempt on President Donald Trump this year, promised $150,000 to anyone who could complete the job. The letter, written months before the September 15 attempt at Trump’s West Palm Beach golf course, expressed Routh’s regret over his failure.

The Department of Justice (DOJ) included the letter in its filing, arguing that Routh should remain in custody. The letter reads, “This was an assassination attempt on Donald Trump, but I am so sorry I failed you. I tried my best.” Routh reportedly left the letter with an unnamed witness who opened it only after hearing about the failed attempt. In addition to the letter, the box contained ammunition and other documents.

The DOJ is seeking to keep Routh detained as the case proceeds, highlighting the seriousness of the plot. This latest attempt comes just months after another gunman, Thomas Matthew Crooks, attempted to assassinate Trump at a rally in Butler, Pennsylvania. Trump was struck by a bullet in the ear during that attempt but survived.

The letter detailed Routh’s disdain for Trump, calling him “unfit” to lead. Routh’s detention hearing is set for later today as authorities work to determine the full extent of his plan and any potential co-conspirators.
