Musk Agrees To Train With UFC Legend For Zuckerberg Cage Match
Twitter CEO Elon Musk has officially agreed to train with a UFC legend in the lead-up to a planned cage match with Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg.
The cage match idea was proposed during a conversation between Musk and Twitter users, which ended with Musk issuing the challenge to Zuckerberg.
The discussion began when the Twitter CEO responded to news that Meta is planning to release a new platform to rival Twitter, to which Musk mockingly responded: “I’m sure Earth can’t wait to be exclusively under Zuck’s thumb with no other options. At least it will be ‘sane’. Was worried there for a moment.”
After a Twitter user jokingly warned Musk to “be careful” because Zuckerberg “does the ju jitsu now,” the Twitter CEO wrote: “I’m up for a cage match if he is lol.”
Zuckerberg responded to the challenge on Meta-owned Instagram, writing: “Send Me Location.”
Pro-free speech Musk will battle pro-censorship Zuckerberg later this year. While some have claimed that the fight will not end up happening, UFC President Dana White has confirmed that the two CEOs were “absolutely dead serious” about the cage match.
“They both said, ‘Yeah, we’ll do it.’ They both want to do it,” White said during an interview with TMZ Sports.
On Monday evening, Musk responded to a tweet from UFC legend Georges St-Pierre, who offered to train him.
“I’m a huge fan of yours and it would be an absolute honor to help you and be your training partner for the challenge against Zuckerberg,” wrote St-Pierre.
“Ok, let’s do it,” Musk replied.
St-Pierre is known as one of the best UFC fighters of all time and one of the greatest fighters in mixed martial arts (MMA) history. According to Fox News, “St-Pierre (26-2-0), a French-Canadian fighter who held championships in two different UFC weight classes, last competed in the Octagon when he resoundingly defeated then-UFC Middleweight Champion Michael Bisping in 2017. He came out of retirement for the match, defeated the champ, and retired again, voluntarily vacating the title.”
While Zuckerberg is known for training in jiu-jitsu, Musk has admitted that he doesn’t work out regularly — though he noted in a tweet that he has previously trained in “judo, Kyokushin (full contact) & no rules streetfighting.”
Musk also joined podcaster and jiu-jitsu fighter Lex Fridman on Monday evening for a “practice round.”
Fridman later shared a video on Twitter of himself practicing with Zuckerberg.
