Musk’s DOGE Agents Arrive In DC With Sights On IRS
Elon Musk’s Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) has officially begun operations in Washington, D.C., launching an aggressive campaign to target wasteful spending across federal agencies. Backed by President-elect Donald Trump, DOGE has set its sights on the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) and other departments in a bold effort to cut trillions from the bloated federal budget.
Originally announced last year, DOGE was created as a privately funded watchdog group with the goal of streamlining federal operations and eliminating redundant programs. The initiative, led by Musk and biotech entrepreneur Vivek Ramaswamy, has quickly expanded its influence. With Trump preparing for his upcoming inauguration, DOGE has emerged as a key player in reshaping how Washington operates.
Currently, over 50 DOGE agents are stationed at SpaceX’s Washington office, working rapidly to identify inefficiencies within government agencies. Reports indicate that DOGE representatives have already conducted meetings with staff from the Treasury Department, IRS, Department of Homeland Security, Veterans Affairs and Health and Human Services. These early steps demonstrate DOGE’s aggressive approach to exposing and cutting waste.
Musk has set an ambitious goal of slashing $2 trillion in federal spending, though he acknowledged this figure might be optimistic. “If we try for $2 trillion, we’ve got a good shot at getting $1 [trillion],” Musk stated, signaling a relentless drive to shrink the federal government.
Critics have raised concerns about DOGE’s close relationship with Trump’s transition team, arguing that the group’s private funding and rapid expansion could blur the lines between government oversight and private influence. However, supporters see DOGE as a necessary force to disrupt entrenched government waste and hold bloated agencies accountable.
DOGE’s aggressive recruitment continues, aiming to double its workforce to 100 employees by Trump’s inauguration. The group’s swift rise has unsettled federal agencies unaccustomed to this level of scrutiny, signaling that significant cuts and reforms may be on the horizon.
As Musk and Trump move forward with their shared vision of reducing government overreach, DOGE is poised to become a driving force in eliminating waste and restoring accountability in Washington.
