New Attorney General Matt Gaetz Poised To Overhaul DOJ: All Options On The Table
President-elect Donald Trump has nominated Rep. Matt Gaetz (R-FL) to lead the Department of Justice as attorney general. Gaetz, a staunch advocate for government accountability, immediately resigned from his congressional seat to pave the way for his confirmation process.
House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-LA) confirmed Gaetz’s resignation, noting it ensures his congressional district can fill the vacancy promptly. “He’s a reformer in his mind and heart, and I think he’ll bring a lot to the table,” Johnson said.
Trump praised Gaetz for his dedication to ending what he calls the “partisan weaponization” of federal agencies. “Matt will end weaponized government, protect our borders, dismantle criminal organizations and restore Americans’ faith in the Justice Department,” Trump said.
Gaetz’s work on the House Judiciary Committee has been instrumental in exposing government overreach, including uncovering misconduct during investigations into Trump. His role in challenging what many see as the Deep State has earned him respect among conservatives and a reputation as a fearless advocate for the Constitution.
Senate Republicans are expected to begin confirmation hearings in January when they take control of the upper chamber. Majority Leader John Thune (R-SD) indicated that all options, including recess appointments, are on the table to ensure Trump’s nominees are in place swiftly.
If confirmed, Gaetz is expected to focus on restoring trust in the DOJ by rooting out corruption and holding federal officials accountable. His nomination marks a pivotal step in Trump’s promise to deliver justice and dismantle the Deep State.
