NYC Tightens Rules On Migrant Bus Arrivals
In part of his efforts to respond to the ongoing migrant crisis being inflicted on the nation by the Biden administration’s open-borders policies, New York City Mayor Eric Adams (D) this week issued a stern executive order aimed at regulating the influx of migrants arriving by bus. Adams’ latest move reflects the city’s commitment to maintaining order and safety even as the record number of illegals being welcomed into the country by Joe Biden escalates.
Adams has mandated that charter buses transporting migrants to New York City provide a 32-hour advance notice before their arrival. Additionally, these buses are now restricted to operating between 8:30 a.m. and 12 p.m., Monday through Friday. They will only be permitted to use designated drop-off locations.
Adams in part claimed the new order was necessary because of increased migrant arrivals from Texas, ordered by Gov. Greg Abbott (R) as part of Operation Lone Star. Abbott’s strategy has been to send migrants to Democratic strongholds like New York and Chicago to share the burden experienced by border states with those Democrat-run strongholds that self-describe as “sanctuary cities.”
Adams said this week that his new executive order isn’t designed to prevent migrants from coming to his city but to “ensure their safety” and facilitate an orderly arrival. The order also provides for substantial legal consequences if it is violated. The city is empowered to impose fines and civil liability for violations, including impounding privately owned buses.
Adams has repeatedly criticized what he perceives as inadequate action from Washington, D.C., in addressing the record number of illegal migrants coming to his city. The mayor noted that New York has already spent over $1 billion on the migrant crisis since Joe Biden assumed office, and anticipates needing more than $4 billion in funding in the near future.
Gov. Abbott’s office has countered criticism of Operation Lone Star by describing the hypocrisy of Adams and other Democratic leaders. Abbott spokesperson Renae Eze criticized Adams for sending buses of migrants to small towns in New York, comparing the situation with Joe Biden’s clandestine transportation of migrants across the country to be released without any meaningful supervision.
Adams’ struggles to address the illegal migration hammering the Big Apple are emblematic of the ongoing political and humanitarian challenges posed by the Biden migrant crisis across all of America.
