The Obamas have broken their silence and endorsed Kamala Harris as the Democratic nominee for president. In a video posted on social media, the former president and first lady expressed their pride and commitment to supporting Harris’s campaign.

Barack Obama emphasized the need for unity and confidence in Harris’s leadership, acknowledging that Democrats face a tough race ahead.

Critics, however, have noted the scripted nature of the endorsement, especially given previous reports that Obama doubted Harris’s ability to defeat Trump. The endorsement follows President Biden’s poor performance in a televised debate against Trump, which led to “his” decision to withdraw from the race. Biden’s exit has left Harris as the presumptive nominee, and the Obamas’ support aims to rally Democratic voters and strengthen her campaign.

Obama stated, “We’re absolutely confident that you’re gonna be able to make it happen. We want to make sure that, you know, we’re sending a message out to not just Democrats but every American… that the stakes are high.” Despite this endorsement, some critics believe Harris will face significant challenges in debates, particularly against Trump.

The turning point for Biden, 81, came after his disastrous debate performance against Trump in Atlanta, which, according to sources, was part of an elaborate set-up to remove him from the race. The source doesn’t have high hopes for a TV debate between Trump and Harris, predicting that Harris will struggle with key issues like Israel, Palestine, and Ukraine.

The White House did not respond to requests for comment on this story. Obama’s original statement on Biden’s exit praised his “outstanding track record” but did not mention Harris. He expressed confidence that Democratic leaders would create a process to select an outstanding nominee.

The endorsement aims to reinforce Harris’s position and address voter concerns as the campaign intensifies.
