Ohio Mother Killed While Trying To Stop Carjacker
Alexa Stakely, 29, tragically lost her life while attempting to save her six-year-old son from a carjacker in Columbus, Ohio. The incident occurred early Thursday at White Oak Park Condominiums. Stakely had left her car running to retrieve her son’s belongings when a thief tried to steal the vehicle with her son inside. In a desperate attempt to stop the carjacker, she jumped on the hood but was thrown off, suffering fatal injuries.
Witnesses reported seeing two males fleeing the scene, leaving the car with the boy unharmed inside. Authorities believe the suspects were part of a group seen near the apartments earlier. Sgt. James Fuqua confirmed the suspects are aware of their actions and called on the public to provide any security footage that could assist in the investigation.
Stakely worked as a speech-language pathologist at Winchester Trail Elementary and also took on a second job as a server to support her child. Her brother, Hayden Swartz, highlighted her dedication to children and her son, urging the perpetrators to turn themselves in. “Justice needs to be served,” he stated.
A GoFundMe page has been set up to help cover the needs of her child. This tragic event underscores the dangers of car theft and the heroic measures parents will take to protect their children. The community is rallying around Stakely’s family, offering support and seeking justice for her untimely death.
