Former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) has made waves with her recent proposal to add President Joe Biden to Mount Rushmore. In an interview on CBS News, Pelosi argued that Biden’s achievements merit such an honor, despite widespread criticism of his policies.

Pelosi described Biden as “a Mount Rushmore kind of president,” citing his significant impact on the nation. “He was in a good place to make whatever decision – the top of his game,” she stated.

CBS host Lesley Stahl appeared taken aback by the suggestion, asking, “Are you really saying that he belongs up there on Mount Rushmore? Lincoln and Joe Biden?”

Pelosi responded by acknowledging the current figures on the monument. “I don’t say take him down. But you can add Biden,” she suggested, referencing Teddy Roosevelt among the existing presidents.

The proposal has drawn considerable criticism from those who view Biden’s presidency as damaging. Critics argue that his policies have led to economic and social turmoil, making the idea of honoring him on Mount Rushmore seem inappropriate.

In the same interview, Pelosi also addressed rumors about her involvement in pressuring Biden to reconsider his 2024 presidential bid. “No, I wasn’t the leader of any pressure [campaign],” she claimed. “I didn’t call one person. I could always say to him, ‘I never called anybody.’”

However, reports from CNN indicate that Pelosi privately advised Biden against running, citing poor poll numbers and the potential risk to the Democratic Party’s future. According to these reports, Pelosi suggested that Biden’s continued candidacy could jeopardize the party’s chances of retaining power.

When questioned by MSNBC about whether Biden should step down, Pelosi was noncommittal. “I want him to do whatever he decides to do, and that’s the way it is,” she said. “Whatever he decides, we go with.”

The conversation between Pelosi and Biden reportedly involved other prominent Democrats, including former President Barack Obama and House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries (D-NY).

Pelosi’s suggestion to add Biden to Mount Rushmore has added fuel to the ongoing debate about his presidency and its legacy. As the political landscape evolves, this proposal has sparked discussions about the criteria for national honors and the impact of current leadership on the nation’s future.
