Pence Faces Backlash As He Continues To Turn On Trump
Former Vice President Mike Pence is continuing to turn on his former boss amid his attempt to run against former President Donald Trump in the 2024 primary. Pence, who did not even qualify for the first GOP primary debate, suggested during a Sunday appearance on CBS News that he has not ruled out being a witness for the prosecution against Trump.
The former vice president has been steadily sinking in the polls since his viral “that’s not my concern” moment — where he appeared to mix up his response to a question from Tucker Carlson during a townhall that made it sound like he said he was more concerned about funding Ukraine than helping Americans.
Now, he is doubling down on supporting the Democrats’ attempts to jail his former boss.
When asked by CBS’ “Face the Nation” host Margaret Brennan whether he would be a witness against Trump in the trial against him related to his legal challenges of the 2020 election, Pence claimed that he had “no plans” to testify — but would not rule out the possibility.
“But people can be confident we’ll obey the law, we’ll respond to the call of law, if it comes, and we’ll just tell the truth,” he added.
This comment comes after Pence’s widely rebuked response to Trump’s indictment — where he condemned his former boss in a post on X, formerly known as Twitter.
“Today’s indictment serves as an important reminder: anyone who puts himself over the Constitution should never be President of the United States,” Pence wrote.
“So glad Tucker Carlson ended your career,” conservative influencer Benny Johnson responded to the tweet.
Pence was also called out in person by voters during one of his campaign stops on Saturday, with New Hampshire residents calling him a “traitor” and arguing that he “sold us out!”
“Why didn’t you uphold the constitution sir?” another voter asked.
Trump himself slammed Pence in a post on Truth Social.
“WOW, it’s finally happened! Liddle’ Mike Pence, a man who was about to be ousted as Governor Indiana until I came along and made him V.P., has gone to the Dark Side,” he wrote.
“I never told a newly emboldened (not based on his 2% poll numbers!) Pence to put me above the Constitution, or that Mike was ‘too honest.’ He’s delusional, and now he wants to show he’s a tough guy. I once read a major magazine article on Mike. It said he was not a very good person. I was surprised, but the article was right. Sad!” Trump added.
