In the wake of the attempted assassination of former President Donald Trump at a rally in Butler, Pennsylvania, investigators are considering the possibility that Thomas Matthew Crooks, the shooter, did not act alone. Evidence suggests that Crooks may have had assistance in planning and executing the attack, as he possessed sophisticated equipment and there is no record of him researching bomb-making.

After Crooks was fatally shot by a Secret Service sniper, police discovered a cell phone and a bomb detonator next to his body. WPXI released exclusive photos of these items, raising questions about how Crooks acquired such equipment. Previous reports by The Wall Street Journal and CNN confirmed that Crooks had explosives in his car, though specific details are still unknown.

Investigators have not found any online search history showing that Crooks learned how to make explosives. This lack of evidence strongly suggests that he received help in obtaining and assembling the devices. The complexity of the explosives indicates a level of expertise that Crooks likely did not possess on his own.

Additionally, Crooks entered the rally with a rangefinder, a tool commonly used by snipers. The ease with which he accessed a rooftop and targeted Trump points to a well-coordinated effort, implying that others may have been involved.

Crooks purchased a 5-foot ladder from Home Depot on the day of the attack. However, the ladder found at the scene was larger, leading to further questions about whether someone else provided it or advised him on what to do.

The attack resulted in a bullet grazing President Trump’s ear and injuries to other rally attendees. Trump’s reaction, raising his fist and shouting “Fight! Fight! Fight!” as he was escorted to safety, has been widely covered.

While the media has labeled Crooks as a lone wolf and domestic terrorist, the sophistication of the attack and the advanced equipment found suggest he had assistance. The ongoing investigation is focused on identifying any accomplices who may have aided Crooks in his assassination attempt on Trump.
