Joe Rogan has made his stance on Canada clear — he’s not going. The UFC host and podcast star announced he won’t be at UFC 315 this May in Montreal, pointing to what he sees as a country spiraling into authoritarianism.

Rogan said during a recent episode of “The Joe Rogan Experience” that he would “rather go to Russia” than cross into Canada right now. His concerns are rooted in the government’s handling of dissent, especially during the trucker protests that challenged COVID-19 mandates.

He didn’t mince words. “The government’s terrible… but the Canadian people are awesome,” Rogan said. He made it clear the issue is with the leadership, not the citizens. Still, he’s not willing to show up for any reason.

The podcast host has frequently spoken out against what he views as extreme censorship and government control in Canada. His refusal to participate in a major UFC event marks a significant move, especially given his central role in the sport’s commentary.

Tensions between the U.S. and Canada have also ramped up during President Donald Trump’s second term. The two nations are now locked in a trade war, with political rhetoric intensifying on both sides. Trudeau’s replacement, Mark Carney, recently warned Canadians about U.S. interference in their domestic affairs.

Rogan, who spoke with Trump during the campaign and was praised by UFC president Dana White for his influence, continues to use his platform to sound alarms. His recent comments are seen by some as part of a broader pushback against what critics call a rising culture of political suppression in Canada.

Fans had expected Rogan to be part of the commentary team for the welterweight title fight between Belal Muhammad and Jack Della Maddalena. His absence will likely be felt throughout the broadcast, even as the co-main event between Valentina Shevchenko and Manon Fiorot also draws international attention.
