he evidence is overwhelming: school choice is the best way to ensure a quality education for all students in America. By allowing parents to choose where their children go to school, students benefit from a system that rewards success and encourages schools to compete for students. This competitive environment pushes schools to improve and ensures that students are better prepared for the real world.

Despite what some Democrat lawmakers argue, school choice programs are not a financial burden. In fact, they save states billions of dollars. A recent analysis found that school choice programs across 26 states saved taxpayers between $19.4 billion and $45.6 billion. Instead of overfunding a public school system that continues to underperform, school choice directs resources to where they are needed most — schools that provide real results.

The public education system is currently spending more than ever before, with an average of $17,280 per student annually. Yet, student achievement has not improved. New York spends over $33,000 per student, but fewer than half of its third graders are proficient in reading. Private schools, which typically spend far less per student, consistently deliver better academic outcomes.

School choice, particularly through education savings accounts (ESAs), gives parents the power to ensure their children receive the education they deserve. Families can use a portion of the funds that would have gone to public schools and apply it to private education, making sure their children are not stuck in schools that fail them.

By giving families more control over their education choices, school choice not only benefits students but also creates a more efficient and cost-effective system. It’s time to expand school choice across the country.
