Sunny Hostin’s Husband Caught In Massive RICO Lawsuit Over Insurance Fraud
Dr. Emmanuel “Manny” Hostin, orthopedic surgeon and husband of The View co-host Sunny Hostin, is named in a sweeping RICO lawsuit filed in New York City last month. The case alleges widespread fraud involving insurance claims for taxi companies and rideshare services like Uber and Lyft.
The lawsuit, filed on December 17, accuses Hostin of providing fraudulent medical services and submitting false insurance claims to American Transit Insurance. Prosecutors claim the fraudulent practices included unnecessary medical procedures and kickbacks disguised as dividends or other payments. Hostin Orthopaedics, a practice owned by Dr. Hostin since 2006, is central to the allegations.
Hostin’s attorney, Daniel Thwaites, strongly denied the accusations, labeling the lawsuit “meritless” and accusing American Transit Insurance of targeting healthcare providers to evade paying claims. “This lawsuit is a blatant abuse of the legal system, aimed at intimidating doctors and restricting care for insured individuals,” Thwaites said.
Sunny Hostin, a former federal prosecutor and senior legal analyst for ABC, has previously spoken about her husband’s work on The View. In one segment, she referenced her husband’s legal battles with insurance companies, stating he often has to sue insurers to recover payments for his medical services.
Critics have pointed out the irony of Hostin’s public comments in light of the allegations. A segment from The View circulated online shows Hostin discussing her husband’s disputes with insurance companies, a moment that now appears significant in the context of the lawsuit.
The case, described as one of the largest RICO lawsuits ever filed in New York, underscores the scale of alleged fraud. If proven, the accusations could have far-reaching implications for all named defendants, including Dr. Hostin. While his legal team disputes the claims, the lawsuit adds pressure on Sunny Hostin, who frequently uses her platform to advocate for transparency and accountability.
