After Rep. Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) was ousted from the speakership on Tuesday evening, Rep. Patrick McHenry (R-NC) temporarily took over the position — where he immediately took a bold step, evicting Speaker Emerita Rep. Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) from her Capitol hideaway office.

In an email to Pelosi’s office, McHenry informed the California congresswoman that she must vacate her office by Thursday — despite the fact that she was back home in California to mourn the loss of the late Sen. Dianne Feinstein (D-CA).

“Please vacate the space tomorrow, the room will be re-keyed,” McHenry’s email to Pelosi’s office read, according to Politico.

The email went on to explain that the office will now be “for speaker office use.”

Pelosi was reportedly outraged about being evicted from her office — declaring it “a sharp departure from tradition.” She went on to argue that she could not retrieve her possessions by Thursday because she was busy mourning Feinstein’s death. House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries’ (D-NY) staffers reportedly took care of clearing out Pelosi’s office for her.

McHenry took over as Speaker Pro Tempore after Rep. Matt Gaetz’s (R-FL) motion to remove McCarthy successfully passed with the help of seven Republican lawmakers and the entire Democrat minority. The Republicans who supported this motion include Reps. Andy Biggs (R-AZ), Ken Buck (R-CO), Eli Crane (R-AZ), Bob Good (R-VA), Matt Rosendale (R-MT), Tim Burchett (R-TN) and Nancy Mace (R-SC).

Gaetz and Mace appeared on Steve Bannon’s “War Room” to speak about their decision to oust McCarthy for his failure to keep promises as House Speaker.

This was the first time in United States history that a Speaker of the House was removed from their position. Many establishment Republicans have already begun attacking Gaetz for ousting McCarthy, including RINO former Speaker of the House Newt Gingrich — who has demanded that Gaetz be kicked out of Congress.

Reps. Jim Jordan (R-OH) and Steve Scalise (R-LA) have both announced their candidacy for House Speaker. Many House Republicans have already expressed their support for Jordan, including Reps. Thomas Massie (R-KY) and Gaetz.

Meanwhile, McHenry has sent Congress home until October 10.
