Tensions Flare At Trump Assassination Hearing Over Security Lapses
A heated confrontation broke out during Thursday’s hearing on assassination attempts against President-elect Donald Trump. The clash, between Rep. Pat Fallon (R-TX) and acting Secret Service Director Ronald Rowe, centered on concerns over the agency’s handling of Trump’s security.
The task force convened to address two high-profile incidents targeting Trump. In July, Trump narrowly survived being shot in the ear at a rally in Butler, Pennsylvania. Shortly after, Secret Service agents thwarted another attempt at a Florida golf course. Both incidents have raised serious questions about gaps in presidential protection.
During the hearing, Rowe began recounting his experience responding to the 9/11 terrorist attacks as a demonstration of his service to the nation. Fallon interrupted, pressing him to stick to the subject of Trump’s security. “I’m not asking you that. I’m asking you—” Fallon began before being cut off.
“Do not invoke 9/11 for political purposes,” Rowe fired back. The two men shouted over each other, with Rowe eventually yelling, “You are out of line.”
The public clash highlighted the growing frustration among lawmakers about security protocols and the agency’s preparedness for future threats. This was the task force’s second public hearing, with a report on its findings due by Dec. 13.
